What does the data say about Clean Energy consumption?

The EIA recently shared that last year, 2019, “renewable energy sources accounted for about 11% of total U.S. energy consumption and about 17% of electricity generation.” That 11% pales in comparison to the amount of attention and praise Clean Energy receives publicly. Where’s the disconnect? Why isn’t it growing faster? Why isn’t natural gas included in the clean energy data?
